The conference is over but the recordings are still available and you’re welcome to access them at any time.
We would, however, really like to get your feedback to find out what you liked and what we could improve.

Byron tik started the topic Section for resources in the forum LX Conference Forum 3 years, 9 months ago
Hi, I’m sure Joyce said something about it, but it would be great if we had a section where we can find all resources from the speakers. e.g. processes, links and books. Perhaps these are already available collated elsewhere? Thanks Byron

Hi Veronica
Are you trying to come in through Chrome? if yes can I suggest you try firefox. Is it just these areas of the site you are having problems accessing? Will also escalate this to our melbourne team, but they wont be able to address it for another 5 hours.

Hi Jolanda and Stephen
Thanks for those further insights, I think @stephen we just need to keep posing that question Why do we use……its about getting management (who in all cases are so detached from the on the ground learning) to consider why we have some of these systems in place. Google drive is a great alternative , and has been a welcomed LMS for my studies (currently…Read More

I just posed the question today to our management, “Why do we use Moodle?” Possible answers are “So only those who have paid have access to our courses”. “So we can track what the participants do”. “So we can have authentication for accreditation purposes”. Mundane reasons to lock everybody up in a learning dungeon, I say. Hey, I so relate to that registration problem. I got round it at…Read More

@Jolanda Morkel, I favor a project based learning (PBL). I believe PBL helps students understand the relevance of what they are learning. The more we can tie the content to the real-world contexts students’ will […]

Well where does one begin with the LMS question? My belief is that the LMS or CMS (content Management system) as I call Moodle/Blackboard and the like, will die a slow death within a the next few years. Their limitations have been exposed and OER have matured, grown and adapted whereas the CMS systems have not. Further these social technical systems do not have a place in the modern…Read More

So glad to hear that you are finding the project inspiring! It has certainly been an amazingly insightful journey into reflecting on our own practice for us as a team of learning designers.

Natasha, OK I cheated. I just went and “Looked Inside” on Amazon and so I’m judging The Nudge not by its cover but by the first few sample pages. I came across Automatic and Reflective cognitive modes and thought immediately of Barbara Oakley and her focused and diffuse thinking (A Mind for Numbers) and Rudy Rucker and his cosmic and robotic modes (The Big Aha!). Seeing the same thing…Read More

Following Lisa’s lead of drawing on established wisdom that is still relevant today I offer *Designing Virtual Worlds* by Richard R. Bartle New Riders 2004. Through his involvement with MUD 1 and other early text based worlds Bartle had access to a massive (like really massive) amount of user data which he and his colleagues analysed and leveraged, feeding it back into their designs…Read More

We deliver (oops… offer) our online courses on Moodle. But only yesterday I made a preposterous proposal that we could dispense with it for a particular new programme and just make it available on a wide-open WordPress site in blog format. We have the luxury that our programmes are self assessed, not formally assessed. The future of more distributed and open learning lies (I believe) in…Read More
